A Image map is sometimes spelled as a single word imagemap. It is a way of correlating HTML information with coordinates of an image. Basically, it allows for assigning different links to different parts of a single image in a website. This is done by mapping different hot spots of the image, to different links. These hot spots are ranges of coordinates. Image maps can be implemented in two ways. First as a server-side image map file which is referenced by the HTML file. The second option is a client-side image map. In this case the map is included in the HTML file.
