Todos somos Marcos- Spanish, translated meaning: 'we are all Marcos'.

A Zapatista slogan.

Subcomandante Marcos is one of the many leaders of the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, México, he arrived in the Lacandon jungle wearing a ski mask, and so no one has ever seen his face. The result of this decision has been to prevent the glamorization, and pop culturization of Marcos (as was done with the image of Che Guevara).

What this means to the Zapatista movement, and really to all activists, is that the message remains more important than the faces involved or the leaders of the movement. What this also means is that if something were to happen to Marcos, it would not matter to the struggle because we are all Marcos' and we all have equal responsibility in the fight. At any point in time another person may take over Marcos' role and we would never know.
