Water containing little bubbles, usually of carbon dioxide. Other common names for sparkling water are tonic water or even soda (the kind without any flavoring added). Sparkling water is very popular in cafes throughout Europe. There are two main forms: natural sparkling water, bottled from a natural spring, such as Perrier, which is more expensive, and cheaper, usually tap water with carbon dioxide bubbles added. Sparkling water is frequently used in mixed drinks, including those with and without alcohol.
