Shesha in Hinduism is the thousand headed snake that holds up the universe. Vishnu sleeps on Shesha's back. At the end of the universe Shesha will shoot fire that destroys everything. When Vishnu was incarnated as Rama, Shesha took the human form Balarama. When Balarama died, Shesha slithered out of the body while cloning himself to make every snake on Earth.
