Is anything we do
really selfless? I mean, say you hold the door open for a
complete stranger. It's not helping you in any direct way, but you do get a nice
warm fuzzy feeling when you know that you've helped someone. So, you actually are getting something from the experience, and are doing for this purpose. Would you still hold the door open if you knew that same
complete stranger was going to
bitch at you for doing so? Probably not - it would make you feel bad and
prickly. So I guess we're pretty
selfish when it comes down to it. It's not a bad thing, really, it's just part of the whole
survival thing.
