On a cable housing more than one wire, the pinout is the arrangement of the wires in the connectors at either end of the wire. For example, a standard phone cable has four wires; the proper pinout on each side (using an RJ-11 connector) is:

1. -empty-
2. black
3. red
4. green
5. yellow
6. -empty-
