In classical fencing, most lines are defined around the position of the sword or the sword hand. Outside line refers to an attack or parry which moves towards the sword hand’s side of the body. Outside line parries in classical fencing include 2, 3, 6, and 8, as well as the counter parry from each of those. Additionally, the transitions between many other parries (such as 4 to 7) cover outside line.
