to organize a relationship. originally invented because of the necessity of working together to sustain a family, romantic aspects were introduced in the late middle ages. since then, the romantic parts have been on the rise with the economic ones becoming more and more secondary.
viewed by large parts of the youth as an outdated form of partnership, but nevertheless most of them end up in it anyways.

Mar"ry (?), v. t. [imp. & p. p. Married (?); p. pr. & vb. n. Marrying.] [OE. marien, F. marier, L. maritare, fr. maritus husband, fr. mas, maris, a male. See Male, and cf. Maritral.]

To unite in wedlock or matrimony; to perform the ceremony of joining, as a man and a woman, for life; to constitute (a man and a woman) husband and wife according to the laws or customs of the place.
