The amount by which a price is increased by a retailer when selling products in a store. Necessary to turn a profit, but many stores are quite excessive with their markups.

  1. Increasing a price at a given rate, or the rate at which the price is increased.
     
  2. The process of embedding metadata within a body of data, such as in the markup language HTML (Hypertext Markup Language).
