A mnemonic to help remember the most common denominations of the metric system.

K H D - D C M

(base unit, e.g. meter, gram, etc.)

If you happen to be a linguist, you can also note that the multiples of ten are from Greek, where the fractions of ten are from Latin. And yes, we in America need a mnemonic to remember that.
