Heavenly Bamboo is a plant from Japan which is known for its graceful form and colorful red berries and interesting leaves. It is in no way actually related to bamboo, being instead in the Nandina genus. In Japan, it is used often in landscaping and Bonsai arrangements. It is an extremely popular plant in America too. However, it is somewhat abused and overused by American landscapers. If you're living in a hot, dry area, dont plant this. It will look scorched and sick, or wont survive at all. Also, dont try to trim it as a hedge. It just doesnt work. If well cared for and in a proper environment it is a very scenic plant. Out of place it is quite ugly. If you look closely at this plant you will find that most of what look like stems in its leggy structure are actually the long petioles of leaves.
