In this chilling theory, the disaster strikes when nanotech self-replicating devices are released, intentionally or mistakenly, into the environment, causing human infertility. The machines, developed either by government or eco-terrorist forces, are designed either as a weapon of mass destruction or as a way of controlling unfettered human population-growth.
