DSM is an abbreviation of Diamond Star Motors. A joint effort between Mitsubishi(Diamond)and Chrysler(Star). They released the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser triplets in 1989. There were several trim levels available, the top of the line models were equiped with the Mitsubishi 4G63 2.0 liter engine, and an all wheel drive system. The final assembly plant for all these cars is based in Normal, Illinois. In 1995 the cars underwent major body and mechanical changes, and the Laser was dropped. The next major change came in 1996 when a convertable was added to the lineup. Eventually the Chrysler dropped Eagle and only the Eclipse was left. Most recently the Eclipse was redesigned for the new millenium.
These cars were very capable, especially the first generation ones. In stock form they are able to reach speeds of 150 miles per hour(don't ask how I know) and with a little aftermarket help they are serious competition for anything this side of a Porsche 911.
In addition DSMs have one of the best on-line followings for one type of car that I have seen, their homepage is http://www.dsm.org
