a score for one hole that is three strokes under par
. Yeah, in your dreams
Double eagles can only be made on par 4's or par 5's -- three strokes under par on a par 3 is zero. Even I ain't buying that fish story.
A hole in one on a par 4 results in a double eagle. A score of two on a par 5 is also a double eagle. There are far fewer double eagles made than holes in one.
The most famous double eagle in golf history was Gene Sarazen's 'shot heard round the world' in the 1935 Master's. On the 15th hole, a par 5, Sarazen scored a double eagle to force a playoff. He eventually won the tournament.
Billy says a double eagle is also called an albatross.
