In football (or soccer, for Americans like me), a direct kick taken from the corner of the pitch. It is awarded when the opposing team plays the ball out of the back of their own end. It can be one of the more exciting plays in football, as it represents a good scoring chance, and almost all of the players are inside the 18-yard box.

The corner kick must be taken from inside the 1-yard quarter circle in the corner of the pitch. All opponents must be at least 10 yards away from the ball, and the player who takes the corner kick can not touch the ball again until it is touched by another player.
