A bromeliad is any plant of the family Bromeliaceae. They are usually tropical American epiphytic herbaceous plants.

Many bromeliads impound water in a central cistern. These cups are often home to insects, aquatic organisms (called phytotelmata) and more familiar creatures like frogs and snakes.

Two examples of common bromeliads are pineapples and Spanish Moss.
