One of the Sacred Lakes of Tibet. Located along the road from Gyantse to Shigatse, or maybe it was Shigatse to Lhasa . . . (I'll find a good map of Tibet and fix this part of the node.) Yamdrok is an unearthly shade of turquoise blue. Its shores are made of slatey pebbles, roamed by herds of tiny goats. The only sound in the air is the tinkling of the bells around their necks as they wander by.

The lake is heart-rendingly beautiful. Sky and lake seemed like part of a whole, just ringed by the grey Himalayas, not separated by them.
