This motorcycle was actually a 698cc because harley-davidson talked congress into an ill-fated protecive tariff that taxed the hell out of imported (i.e. japanese) motorcycles over 700cc's. The Supreme Court ruled the whole thing unconstitutional. Clear proof that the US can't produce a real motorcycle, and so must protect the water-pump-motored harley-davidson.

Indeed. The Maxim, no longer manufactured, has the body of a cruiser and the engine of a sportsbike. In fact, other than a different gas tank and some other minor body differences, it is the exact same bike as the Secas that were built at the same time. It has the faster double overhead cam engine (DOHC), as opposed to a V style engine seen on bigger bikes and Harley Davidsons.
