Soaring condition where there is strong lift over a broad area for no obvious reason. Usually associated with closed valleys towards the end of the day (see katabatic). The lift is gentle and smooth and one can fly for considerable distances in a straight line, climbing the whole time. Usually lift is quite localized - either where thermals are lifting off of the ground or near ridegetops where there is ridge lift due to wind being deflected upwards.
