These Keys can be saved in Notepad as they appear as .reg files. You need to add the square brackets to the address. When clicked, they will be added (with confirmation) to the Windows Registry. From then on, you will get the customization you desired, but were unable to do with more traditional methods, now lost to previous versions of Windows.

Vista:
Set folders to open in Windows Explorer by default.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell] @="explore"

Disable Artificial non-intelligent Folder Views:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
(That is a space in Local Settings)
XP:
Disable Popup Balloon tips in System trey:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000

Edit: 9-16-07 My apologies, Seems in my eagerness to post these, I neglected to do away with the brackets.. (which I knew would lead to the creation of E2 links.)
Thank you to JellyfishGreen and spiregrain for the heads up and very welcome hints.

If you know of some interesting and usefull keys to stick into windows, let me know and I'll get them posted up here.
