We should be dancing together out there because it's empty and all for you and me. You would sing me Prince and I would sing you KISS. And we could be the only ones - if we wanted to - not wearing red or black.

All I need, the only promise I would force out of you, is that unmistakable first move. I have been so long in strength and so long alone when the dawn is rising. I have been so long climbing into the car, donning sunglasses to hide the bruises of neglect, driving so long wondering where is Sunday morning. Tell me it's alright to stay. Take the phone from my hand before I can call the taxi.

Watch this, we will stay up all night and refuse the chairs, we will draw the darkness. Our light will be laughter and remembered in the eternity that gets so often lost. But this will not be the trite and forgettable something we've grown used to. This will be nothing we need to be jaded to survive.

I have painted only one velvet portrait of you in lapsed limelight. I have been calling your name from the dancefloor and a lonely porch. Come home any time you like. I will still be up.
