At 11AM British Standard Time on Friday September 7, 2001, some one million children will jump for a minute,
releasing quasi two billion joules of energy.
Scientists want to measure the impact of the jumpo on seismometers but say The Giant Jump should not register more than three on the Richter Scale.
Dr Ted Nield, from the Geological Society of London
The event will go into the record books as the "greatest simultaneous jump in history".
The Giant Jump is being held to launch Science Year, a British government-funded campaign to promote science among students 10 and 19 years of age.
It will be recorded by the Guinness Book of Records.
