Asimov later expanded "The End of Eternity" into a book, which is better known than the short story. The Eternals initially believed that they were manipulating Reality for humanity's good, but eventually some of them found out that they were not helping humanity, and set out to destroy Eternity and prevent anything like it from being created again.
