The Chamber is a new quiz show on the Fox Network. Contestants must answer a number of questions under physical duress for CASH.

The order of the show is as follows.

Two candidates, a man and a woman, stand face to face. They are both asked the same question with multiple answers, such as “Name the marshmallows in a box of Lucky Charms.” If one player runs out of time on her turn, or responds incorrectly, the other player can score a point by answering correctly on his turn. The first player to score two points is allowed to enter the Chamber.

Before the show, each contestant is checked over by a doctor who then keeps an eye on her while she is in the chamber. An index based on blood pressure and pulse is constantly measured, and a maximum is set for each participant. If this maximum is met or exceeded for 20 seconds while in the Chamber, the game is over. The doctor can also stop the Chamber at any time, as can the player by saying “Stop the Chamber!”.

The Chamber has both “hot” and “cold“ modes. In hot mode, the player within is tortured by increasing temperature, flames, wind, intense vibrations, and an electronic muscle contractor attached to his back. The player’s chair also begins to turn him upside down. Cold mode constantly decreases the temperature, and replaces the flames and chair rotation with jets of cold water and ice dumpers.

There are 7 levels to the Chamber of increasing intensity. On each level, the contestant is asked five trivia questions. Some of these are general knowledge, and some of these are personal. (e.g. “What is your maiden name?”)

Each question is worth $1000. Missing two questions in a row stops the Chamber and cuts the player’s current winnings in half. Making it through all 7 levels doubles the player’s winnings. If she answers at least 25 questions correctly the winnings are tripled.
