Surutto Kansai ("surutto" coming from the Japanization of the word "through") is a rail pass purchased for a fixed amount of money (usually 1,000 to 5,000 yen). It works as a ticket for any private or municipal train or bus in the Kansai region of Japan (meaning basically everything except JR). As you travel, the balance on the pass is automatically deducted by the amount of an equivalent ticket. Basically, the only real benefit you get from having the card is that you don't have to buy a ticket every time you board a train or bus.

Surutto cards are available from the ticket machines at most train stations.
