The Shoebox Project is a
fanfiction project created on livejournal in the summer of 2004. It's creators are LadyJaida and Dorkorific, commonly referred to as Jaida and Rave.
Sections of the project are referred to as "parts". Part one was posted on July 26, 2004. It contained the summer letters between teenaged Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, characters in the Harry Potter series. Subsequent Parts follow these characters, and other characters from the Marauder Era (James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Severus Snape, Lily Evans and others) through the remainder of their time at Hogwarts.
Because of the following of the Harry Potter series, and also the following of the 'ship supported by the fic, Remus/Sirius, the fic grew to huge popularity in the summer of 2004. It was consistently updated in that summer (giving birth to the love of Shoebox Thursdays), but has since gone to a sporadic updating schedule. Major squeeing still occurs in the event of an update. In its height, it spawned many communities, such as cult_sbp, icons, and various other forms of fandom beyond that of the typical fanfiction.
