Sandy Hook, a low beach at the mouth of New York harbor, about 5 miles long, and varying in width from a few hundred feet to 3/4 of a mile. There is a beacon light at the very extreme point, but the Sandy Hook lighthouse is 3/4 of a mile to the S. The National government has recently established Fort Hancock here.
