Japanese sequence of movies recounting the story of Miyamoto Musashi. Directed by Hiroshi Inagaki and featuring Toshiro Mifune in the lead role, it spanned the titles

The strong points of the trilogy resides in Mifune's acting in the first installment and the neat rice paddy swordfight in the second. The duels usually lack in excitement, the movies were mostly filmed on set, and there appear to have been quite a few liberties taken with historical accuracy.

An interesting note is that Musashi is portrayed as a babe magnet. I'm pretty sure every single female character in the movie tries to seduce him, and at least two would readily give up her life to get him. Musashi, however, prefers his swordplay, and is even hinted to be impotent
