As the
Allman Brothers Band was
recovering from the loss of
friends and band members
Duane Allman and
Berry Oakley, they tried to re-shape the band for their 1973 album
Brothers and Sisters.
Dickey Betts, formerly a
guitarist and
songwriter for the band, stepped forward to the
microphone accompanying Duane's brother,
Gregg. The most memorable songs off this record were the Betts-penned "
Jessica" and "Ramblin' Man." These two
rank high in the band's best and most
recognizable works to this day. Where in the instrumental "Jessica," Betts expresses joy at the
birth of his
daughter, "Ramblin' Man" is a
Southern rock staple where the artist explains his
lifestyle and
upbringing.
"Ramblin' Man" was the highest chart-ranked single by the Allman Brothers Band ever, peaking at #2 in 1973.
