RDBMS is short for Relational Database Management System. Relational databases are based on set theory, with the idea being that two sets of data can be "related" by intersecting common attributes. Typically, questions are submitted in the form of Queries to the database and a resulting subset is returned where the requirements of the question intersect with the available data.
