The burns that result from the discharge of the chemical used to fire a projectile from a pistol, shotgun, potato gun, or other weapon. In forensic science, powder burns are usually analyzed to determine the distance between a victim and the weapon that killed him. Also sometimes used to determine if a corpse under investigation has indeed fired a weapon if such has been implied during trial or deposition.
