A term for a party or social gathering in which there are far too many people in attendance than the host or hostess anticipated. Results in scarcity of values such as silverware, food, space, and, worst of all, liquor. Popularized by Washington, D.C. journalist and author Sally Quinn, in her book, "The Party".
