Four-yearly internationalist summer and winter sets of sporting events held to promote goodwill amongst nations. The 2000 summer games will be in Sydney, Australia; the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City, United States. Coincidentally, both cities won these games through bribery.

The Sydney Olympic Games is a fine example of how not to organise an event of that size. With people like Michael Knight trying to use it to further their political careers, actual planning seems to me missing. Every day, so it seems, another 'exposure' into the body running the games. These range from being so many tens of millions over budget to not sending refund cheques to those who required them.

Although Sydney is Australias best city, its infrastructure is not ready for such an event. Melbourne may be prepared for such, but they have already had the games.

Further update on the Sydney Olympics: The medals show the Colosseum, Rome, instead of the traditional Greek architecture. The artist has defended himself, saying it's just a colosseum, not the Colosseum, but that doesn't wash. The Australian Olympic medals clearly depict the scene of the slaughter of tens of thousands, the great Arena. It's now too late to melt down and re-cast the medals, so if you win a medal in Sydney, you'll take away a symbol of human blood sport.
