Author of "Love in a Cold Climate" and "Pursuit of Love", as well as a number of biographical historicalnovels. Growing up in pre-war England (also the period in which her books are set), it is easy to see her as a snob (particularly given some of her writings on upper and lower class methods of speech, or U and non-U as she called it) but in reality she was nothing of the kind. Her novels were at least partially autobiographical, and are very whimsical and fairly silly (in a positive way), though do contain some interesting comments on the political as well as actual battles between Communism and Fascism going on at the time. I found them to be excellent reads, and not to heavy going, and are downright hilarious in points.
