NICUs are generally divided into three sections: Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, and Isolation. Often, each bed will have its own lighting and acoustic shielding to support an atmosphere conducive to healing and growth. Some centers will offer rooms for parents to sleep in when not visiting their baby, and most have a physician on the NICU at all times.
