A surprising novel by John Ball, who is better known for his mysteries, "Miss One Thousand Spring Blossoms" is the story of an American electrical engineer falling in love with a Japanese geisha.

Contrary to western perceptions (and many "documentaries" and novels that play to these perceptions) geisha are not prostitutes. John Ball is one of the few western novelists that seems to know this, and weaves a lovely romance around the two. Giving insight not only into Japanese romantic sensibilities, but also business practices and honor, this book won't take long to read, so if you can find it (say, in a used bookstore) you should get it and read it. It's quite rare, though, so good luck.
