Next spring, a new $45 million air terminal will open at Liverpool, England and will be named the Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow was presented with a scale model of a statue of Lennon which will be erected at the airport. The new logo will feature a cartoon self-portrait of Lennon with the words, "Above us only sky," taken from his song "Imagine." This would be the first time a British Airport was named after an individual, but a practice that's common elsewhere. New York's Kennedy Airport, Munich's Josef Strauss Airport and Rome's Leonardo Da Vinci are but a few.

Lennon was born in Liverpool and started his career in the city's Cavern Club. He was shot and killed outside his apartment building, the Dakota, in New York in 1980. I was watching Monday Night Football that night when Howard Cosell interrupted his broadcast to announce Lennon's death.
