Ler*nae"a (?), n. [NL., fr. L. Lernaeus Lernaean, fr. Lerna, Gr. , a forest and marsh near Argos, the mythological abode of the hydra.] Zool.
A Linnaean genus of parasitic Entomostraca, -- the same as the family Lernaeidae.
⇒ The genus is restricted by modern zoologists to a limited number of species similar to Lernaea branchialis found on the gills of the cod.
