From Detroit, with British and Yugoslav parents, she was originally employed by Cerrone, and wrote his disco classic "Supernature". With
Stiff, she was quintessential "new wave", a cut above the dime-a-dozen skinny-tied careerists and wack-y chantoozies. "Lucky Number" (done later as "Wir Leben Immer Noch" by her friend Nina Hagen)
showed off the multi-octave quirkiness of her voice; "New Toy", aided and
abetted by Thomas Dolby, was even better.
