Short and - apart from the egregiously quaint name - totally unremarkable street in the city centre (the "Old Town") of Hull, East Yorks, just off Whitefriargate, formerly Old Beverley-street. The source of a number of local references (the pub "The Green Gingerman" near the station, for example). Inspiration for the name of a novel (1927) by local author Winifred Holtby.
