The 13th letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Pronounced as the "L" is in English. Each letter in the Hebrew alphabet also has a numerical value. Lamed's value is 30. This becomes important for a particular tradition of Jewish mysticism called Gematria which "translates" the numerical values of words in order to divine hidden or larger meanings and significance to those words.
