A way of representing molecules in which a two electron covalent bond is indicated by a line drawn between atoms.

For example, water would be:-
H-O-H

and ethene would be:-
H     H
 \   /
  C=C
 /   \
H     H

with the double bond drawn as two lines.

Lone pairs of non-bonding valence electrons are often ignored. Compare with Lewis structures.
