An overweight country comedian who achieved national celebrity on Hee Haw. His appeal was based on his likable, almost illiterate manner. He often fumbled his lines, mumbled unintelligibly, but never failed to get a laugh. One of his characters was a used car salesman whose license plate read BR-549. His success brought money; money brought paranoia. He soon had guns everywhere: on a hook behind his bed, hidden behind the toilet... He died in 1983 of a heart attack, at the age of 57.
