Japanime is an artistic reworking of anime by United States writers in which the original anime visuals and perhaps theme music are kept but the storyline and dialogue are severely altered to be more accessible to United States sensibilities. The Robotech saga is the only successful Japanime effort, in part due to the great effort made in its construction. Japanime is quite unlike bad dubbing or Bawdlerized sub-titling of anime : a critical element is that the reworking be *artistic*!
