In theory it was a game:

library stacks
standing near

hiding her face behind the Journal of
Artificial Intelligence
In the fall it was supposed to be a trip -Colorado
she was
visiting some friends from college
in between ski trips
standing in our closet were her skis
hiding behind old raincoats and a quilt
In the hospital, the last time I saw her
during visiting hours only
she was
on the open ward
standing by herself
hiding herself behind the face of someone I did not know
