Hindus who are outside of the Hindu caste system. Previously the untouchables.They are said to be too dirty to be touched by members of any higher caste. Harijan means God's children. The members of this class do all the "dirty work" such as cleaning. In addition, musicians are a member of this class. Their music is enjoyed by people from all castes, but the act of playing certain intruments is thought to be unclean. It is thought that the saliva blown through instruments is unsanitary. The other Hindu castes are Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra.
