John Woo's first entry in Hollywood was marked by this Jean-Claude Van Damme film about an ex-Vietnam vet on the run from rich men who hunt human targets for sport. The film was somewhat disappointing for a Woo film but the story behind the filming of it explains it somewhat. Apparently, Woo had made a cut of the film that wouldn't pass the ratings board without an NC-17 rating. The producers then edited the film and pushed Woo aside during the process. On top of that, Van Damme himself decided to make his own cut of the film which was a mess. Anyway, in the end, an R-rated film was issued and Woo vowed never to work again with an idiot like Van Damme. I'm hoping that one day they will release the director's cut on DVD.
