In Metal Gear Solid, Dr. Emmerich is the obligatory geek character, employed by ArmsTech, inc. His father was born August 6, 1945, and his grandfather worked on Manhattan Project.
He created two things that are remarkable in the game: the stealth suit, the one the Cyborg Ninja uses, and Metal Gear Rex, the prototype that they're testing in the game. Of course, no one bothered to tell him that they were going to use it for such a great malicious purpose.
He likes anime, which is why his nickname is "Otacon" - short for "Otaku convention" (see Otakon).
