Class A soprano solo written by Franz Shubert, in the key of F and in ⁶₈ time, this song gives a first person narrative of Gretchen's emotions while she mourns her lost loved one. It was originally written in German. The piano accompaniment is an ethereal whirl of 16'^th notes ment to resemble the turning of her spinning wheel, and very masterfully composed. It is not very well known and rather formidable with six pages, but I would recommend all musicians, piano players and singers check it out.
