Classic jazz ballad by Charles Mingus. Written in 1959, "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" is an elegy to saxophonist Lester Young, who had died seven weeks before the song was written. "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" is probably one of Mingus' most famous songs, appearing on his release (of the same year) "Mingus Ah Um." It is for sure his most widely covered piece, having been performed by artists like Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke. "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" was also lyricised and sung by Joni Mitchell.
